Programs for U.S. Citizens
The Fulbright Program provides opportunities for American students and scholars to do research or lecture at universities in Nepal. Annually, the Fulbright Commission sponsors 12-15 American Fulbrighters. Please see below, this page, for categories of grants to American Citizens.
Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program:
The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program in Nepal has been running since the first cohort of three ETAs came to Nepal in August 2009. While Fulbright ETAs in Nepal primarily focus on their work as co-teachers in English language classrooms in Nepali government schools, ETAs have engaged in a broad range of training, curriculum review and development, and extra-curricular activities focused on the use of English, which have made ETAs valuable resources both at their schools and in their communities. Additionally, ETAs have acted as resource people to support the work of the Nepal English Language Teachers’ Association (NELTA), a professional association of Nepali English language teachers which assists in the implementation of the Fulbright ETA program. Fulbright Student Researcher Program:
Each year the Nepal Fulbright Commission awards from six to eight 10-month fellowships to recent American graduates (a minimum of a bachelors degree is required) and to graduate students (Masters and Ph.D. degree-seeking candidates) in any field for study and research in Nepal. Read more...

Fulbright Senior Scholar Awards:
The Nepal Fulbright Commission annually funds five to seven grants to U.S. university professors who come to Nepal to teach and/or conduct research. Grants are usually of 5 to 7 months duration. For the 2009-10 academic year, we expect to make 5 Lecturer/Researcher grants (80% teaching and 20% research) and 2 "pure" research grants. Read more...

Fulbright Senior Specialist Program:
In order to extend the scope and reach of the traditional program in a new era, the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program has been initiated to provide U.S. faculty and professionals, short- term Fulbright grants of 2-6 weeks. U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Programs:
The US Department of Education administers the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) and the Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Programs. Both the DDRA and the FRA programs occassionally make grants to students and scholars who wish to come to Nepal. Read more...
