Opportunities for Nepali students and scholars to study or conduct research in the United State are announced in the newspapers, radio and on this website. The competitions are nation-wide and open. Selections are made by the Fulbright Commission's bi-national Board of Directors after an intensive review of applications, English language screening, and interviews.
Masters Degree Students for the academic year 2009-2010
  • Mr. Binab Karmacharya, Veterinary Officer at the National Trust for Nature Conservation Central Zoo in Jawalakhel, Kathmandu, in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida in Gainsville, Florida. Prior to his studies, he participated in a US State Department-paid pre-academic program at Miami Dade College in Miami, Florida.

  • Mr. Krishna K. Thakur, Veterinary cum Quarantine Officer at the Central Animal Quarantine Office in the Department of Livestock Services in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu in Epidemiology and Public Health at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

  • Mr. Umesh Dhimal, Project Architect & Design Coordinator at Archiplan Pvt. Ltd. in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, in Architecture at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

  • Ms. Anunaya Banstola, Technical Assistant in the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control at the Regional Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Hetauda Industrial District in Hetauda, in Food Science at the Illinois Institue of Tehcnology in Chicago, Illinois.

  • Ms. Bisakha Yonzon Tamang, Rights and Advocacy Officer at the National Indigenous Women’s Federation in Samakhusi, Kathmandu, in Conflict Transformation at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

  • Ms. Sachchi Ghimire Karki, National Officer for Translation and Interpretation/Analyst at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Chhauni, Kathmandu, in International Human Rights at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Prior to her studies, she participated in a US State Department-paid pre-academic program at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

  • Ms. Anita Shrestha, Program Coordinator at Ankur Counseling Center of the Friends of Needy Children (FNC) in Ekantakuna, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, in Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

  • Mr. Keshav Prasad Sah, Veterinary Officer at the Regional Animal Disease Investigation Lab in Biratnagar in Molecular Biology at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

  • Ms. Tripti Shrestha Bhattarai, Instructor and Co-ordinator of the Diploma in Pharmacy Program at the Nepal Institute of Health Sciences in Boudha, Tushal in Toxicology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

  • Ms. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra, Senior Resident (Gynecologist) at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, returned to Nepal immediately upon completion of her Master’s in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, as her program there was of only one year duration.

Fulbright Science and Technology Ph.D. 2008 Award
  • Mr. Dhilung Hang Kirat, Software Engineer at D2Hawkeye Services in Bishal Nagar, Kathmandu, in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) at the University of California – Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California. Prior to his studies, he participated in a US State Department funded pre-academic program at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

  • Ms. Archana Shrestha, will be starting her studies only in January 2010.

Post Doctoral Grantees for the academic year 2007-2008
  • Dr. Kunjani Joshi : Lecturer in the Department of Biology at Patan Multiple Campus of Tribhuvan University in Patan Dhoka, Lalitpur, to conduction research on “Phylogeny and Biogeography of Swertia (Gentianaceae) of the Mountainous Regions of Nepal.”  Here host is Senior Research Scientist Dr. Jianhua Li at The Harvard University Herbaria in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  • Dr. Nanda Bahadur Maharjan :   Associate Professor in the Central Department of Physics at Tribhuvan University in Kiritpur, Kathmandu, is conducting research on “Investigation of Electronic Properties of Nano-Materials and Bio-Materials.”  His host is Professor Tar Prasad Das in the Department of Physics at the State University of New York – Albany.
  • Dr. Doj Raj Khanal :  Senior Scientist in the Animal Health Research Division at National Animal Science, Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), is conducting research on “Evaluating Interrelationship of Minerals and Khari Disease towards Determining Etiological Agents and Improving Rural Livelihoods of Buffalo Farmers of Far Western Nepal.”  His host is Prof. Dr. Anthony P. Knight in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
