STANDARDIZED TEST INFORMATION
Since the 1980s, USEF has served as an information and bulletin distribution center for a variety of standardized tests in Nepal. USEF distributes test bulletins for most tests administered in the country and answers general queries about test dates, test fees, test centers, and score reports. Through the USEF library, we currently distribute test bulletins for and answer queries related to the following standardized tests:

Detailed information about these tests is listed below. Please note that all test fees are valid as of August 2008. Test fees usually increase every year.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

TOEFL

Almost all colleges in the USA require TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores from international applicants. TOEFL test scores help colleges judge whether you have adequate English skills to succeed in an American college classroom.

Currently in Nepal, two formats of the TOEFL exist: Internet-based (iBT) and paper-based (PBT). iBT TOEFL has a spoken section; PBT TOEFL does not.

Reasoning Test (SAT I) and Subject Tests (SAT II)

SAT

Students who are applying for an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree in the USA may need to take the SAT in addition to the TOEFL, depending on the requirements of the colleges they are applying to.  Some colleges in the USA will require SAT, some may recommend it, and some will not require it. To gain entrance into competitive colleges especially – and to compete for scholarships – USEF highly recommends that undergraduate applicants take the SAT

There are two types of SAT available: SAT I (Reasoning Test), and SAT II (Subject Tests).  SAT I consists of critical reading, math, and writing components.  SAT II exams are offered in about 15 different subjects, such as Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature, etc.

SAT exams are paper-based tests and are offered approximately six days per year at Lincoln School and/ or St. Xavier’s School and/or Rato Bangala School.  You may take either SAT I or SAT II on any given exam date.  You may take up to three SAT II exams per test date.

Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)

GRE

Students who are applying for a graduate (master’s or Ph.D) degree in the USA may need to take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) in addition to the TOEFL. Depending on your proposed field of study and the colleges you are applying to, the GRE may be required or recommended.

There are two types of GRE available: GRE General Test and GRE Subject Tests.  The GRE General Test is a computer-based test consisting of analytical writing, verbal, and quantitative sections, and is offered almost every business day at USEF. The GRE Subject Tests are paper-based tests, offered approximately thrice a year at St. Xavier’s School.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

GMAT

Students who are applying for an MBA and some management related fields may need to take the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) in addition to the TOEFL.  The GMAT measures basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills and helps graduate management programs assess students who would like to pursue advanced study in business and management.  The GMAT is a computer-based test and is offered several times a week at KCM (Kathmandu College of Management, Gwarko).
