The Fulbright Program provides opportunities for American students and scholars to do research or lecture at universities in Nepal. Annually, the Fulbright Commission sponsors 12-15 American Fulbrighters. Please see below, this page, for categories of grants to American Citizens.
Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships !!!
This is a new program for Nepal beginning in 2009-2010. The FLTA is aimed at American citizens, from graduating college seniors and up, who want to teach English in conjunction with Nepali teachers in local Kathmandu valley schools.

2 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships:

Language : A basic knowledge of spoken Nepali is encouraged but not required.
Grant Duration/Period : Grants will be for a 7-month period.  English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) will arrive in September 2009 to participate in an orientation that will include Nepali language training and culture classes for one month prior to teaching.  ETAs will be teaching in their respective schools from October 2009 through April 2010.
Candidate Profile : Applications are welcome from articulate and flexible graduating seniors, recent graduates or Master’s students who demonstrate a high level of maturity and the initiative to teach English at the secondary or early university level.  Candidates must be native English speakers and without dependents.  Candidates with degrees in English, Education or TEFL/applied linguistics, are preferred but candidates from all majors are welcome to apply.  Teaching experience is preferred but not required.
Affiliation : All affiliation arrangements will be made by the Fulbright Commission in Nepal.
Nature of Assignment : Approximately 16-20 hours per week of classroom teaching, plus all class preparation time and additional school-related activities. ETAs will generally teach conversational English and some composition to middle and early high school students OR to early university level students.
Housing : Housing arrangements will be made with the assistance of the Fulbright Commission and the host schools. Homestay opportunities may be possible, depending on the host school’s location.

Fulbright Senior Scholar Awards !!!
The Nepal Fulbright Commission annually funds five to seven grants to U.S. university professors who come to Nepal to teach and/or conduct research. Grants are usually of 5 to 7 months duration. For the 2009-10 academic year, we expect to make 5 Lecturer/Researcher grants (80% teaching and 20% research) and 2 "pure" research grants.

Fulbright Student (Pre-Doctoral) Awards !!!
Each year the Nepal Fulbright Commission awards from six to eight 10-month fellowships to recent American graduates (a minimum of a bachelors degree is required) and to graduate students (Masters and Ph.D. degree-seeking candidates) in any field for study and research in Nepal.

Fulbright Senior Specialist Awards !!!
In order to extend the scope and reach of the traditional program in a new era, the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program has been initiated to provide U.S. faculty and professionals, short- term Fulbright grants of 2-6 weeks. Under this new program grantees will be able to undertake different types of activities.

US Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Programs !!!
The US Department of Education administers the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) and the Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Programs. Both the DDRA and the FRA programs occassionally make grants to students and scholars who wish to come to Nepal.

Security Concerns !!!
The Nepal Fulbright Commission will carefully review all Fulbright proposals by Americans wishing to work in Nepal for feasibility and security concerns, particularly those focused in rural areas. Where possible, applicants may wish to include an urban backup plan in their proposals and, if selected, must be flexible in response to changing conditions. Those who have specific questions regarding security may inquire by email with the Nepal Commission at fulbcomm@fulbrightnepal.org.np
